The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is currently advertising a range of voluntary roles which should provide applicants with valuable insight into the realities of the NHS hospital environment.
Roles range from ward Dining Companions to pharmacy Chemotherapy Runners for the RBH's King Edward Ward.
Commitments range from just 2 hours per week over a 12 month period.
Whilst studying for my A-levels, I volunteered as a Dining Companion on orthopedic wards within the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This work experience was invaluable in developing my patient approach and confidence working alongside the MDT on busy hospital wards. I really enjoyed my time on the wards, spending time with patients and talking to nurses, doctors, and pharmacists on the front line of the hospital. My experience has been a positive focus of several interviews I have had for pharmacy positions in both community and hospital.
Additionally, I am confident this healthcare-focused volunteering time can be submitted towards your RED award certification.
